Hi everyone, sorry its been a while but Ive been spending some quality time with my family and taken a short break from thinking about MMA for a while. Im currently in Malaysia having a well deserved holiday with my family.

As most of you will no doubt be aware, my last fight didnt go exactly to plan, see the previous entry if youve had your head stuck under a rock for the last month. Ive got no excuses, it just wasn't my night, a bad night at the office you might say. The only problem is when you have a bad day in my line of work, the consequences are a little higher than getting a bollocking off your boss.

While we are on the subject of the fight, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank a few people. First off to my family for all there support from start to finish, a close second is to the Wolfslair, my coaches and to all the people who helped me spar. Theres a long list so you know who you are. I'd like to thank Ecko for there continued support (as well as designing the new site, hope you like it). I was very lucky in nthat alot of people gave me alot of help in preparing for the fight. A special mention has to go to the following,

Anthony and Lee at the wolfslair, Mario Sukata, Zak light, Mark Kinny, Dave Jackson, Ricco Rodrigues, Josh Hall, Phil Baroni, Mike Dolce, Ecko Unltd, Jeff Rainbow, Jay Caron Sean Salmon and every person out there who doubts me and gives me the drive to prove them wrong. Even if I didn't on this occasion lol.

Michael Bisping, knocked out at UFC 100 by Dan Henderson, has insisted that he holds no ill-feeling towards the American fighter, and would have done the same had he been in the same position.

There was outrage in some quarters after Henderson planted a forearm across Bisping’s jaw after he had been knocked to the ground, but the British mixed martial artist knows it is part of the sport.

Bisping explained: “I know there’s been some controversy, but I don’t have any bad feelings about him landing that second shot when I was on the ground. That MMA, you keep hitting until the ref pulls you off. I would have done the same to Dan.”

“Fair play to him, he caught me and knocked me out. Everyone saw it. It is a setback, I am p***** off, I was close to a title shot but I will be back. I want to fight in my hometown of Manchester in November and I want a top opponent, I don’t want to go back down a level. I know I can compete with the best and want to prove that right away.”

Bisping insists he will be back, aiming to fight on the Manchester UFC 100 card. “The UFC doesn’t put emphasis on unbeaten records like they do in boxing, and fighters like Forrest Griffin, my mate Rampage, Randy Couture, GSP and many others have come back from bad losses to win world titles and I aim to do just that myself.”

Obviously, I never planned on getting beat. I felt so confident going into the fight, I was sure I was going to win. I’ve got no excuses, it was an poor performance on the night. I can’t explain why, I can’t pretend I had a bad camp, that I struggled at the weight or any of those types of excuses because the honest truth is I had my best camp ever. I just couldn’t get into any rhythm on the night at all.”  read more »

TUF blog week 9

Week Nine: Right, let’s cut to it and talk about my reaction to Dan Henderson and Team USA switching the training times on the last episode. In real life, this happened about 14 weeks ago, and to this day I am proud of the way I stood up for myself and my team and I don’t regret a word I said.

Hopefully, some of the people giving me heat will change their minds when they learn what actually went down, because to say I am angry about the editing would be an accurate statement.

To my mind – and I know Team UK and my coaches agree 100% - we were given the shaft time and again over the issue of training times and I feel completely justified in standing up for my team.

Here’s the full story: when we first got to Las Vegas, Dan and I and both teams were told by Dana White – it was on camera – that Las Vegas was neutral ground. But Dana wasn’t always around and no, Vegas wasn’t neutral ground and every single member of Team UK will back me to the hilt on this point. They were all pretty sick of it towards the end.

After I got to Vegas, Dan and I were asked which training times we preferred, and I shouted out first I wanted the earlier slots, which were early morning and then early evening. The reason I wanted the early time in the morning was because I didn’t want the late night slot in the evening, leaving my team up until at least 10:30pm every night.

But Dan also wanted the morning slot and, at it happened, even though I said ‘first’, Dan got the slot. The producers compromised and said that we would alternate the nights every other week, so my team would have the early slots in the second, fourth and final weeks of filming.  read more »

UK sports minister shows support for MMA and UFC

Submitted by Michael Bisping on Fri, 06/05/2009 - 20:12.

UFC stars Michael Bisping and Paul Taylor have received a ringing endorsement from UK Minister for Sport Gerry Sutcliffe.

“I wish both Michael and Paul the best of luck in their important fights this year. Michael has fought brilliantly since he dropped to middleweight and I’d love to see him be the first Briton to fight for a world title. I also hope Paul comes back triumphant from the first ever UFC event in Germany on 13 June,” he said.

Sutcliffe, who heads the British equivalent of the US Department for Health and Human Services, has also voiced his approval of mixed martial arts in general.

“Like boxing, mixed martial arts can reach people who may not be interested in the more mainstream sports. In the right environment and with proper supervision, it can be an exciting, technically demanding sport that combines many complex disciplines including boxing, judo, jiu-jitsu, kickboxing and wrestling,” he said.

“It is not only physically demanding but can teach important life lessons about discipline and commitment. Mixed martial arts is a rapidly growing sport with a truly international profile. Stars like Michael Bisping and Paul Taylor are world class athletes and an inspiration to young people who want to take up martial arts.”

Sutcliffe praised Bisping and Taylor for their positive influence on young people. In particular he singled out a recent episode where the pair paid a surprise visit to disabled athletes who had represented Britain in the Paralympic Games.

“I met Michael and Paul at an award ceremony for Disability Sport earlier this year where they surprised two of our Paralympians, Sasha Kindred and Kieran Murphy,” the minister explained.

“They are both massive fans of UFC and Michael and Paul gave them tickets to the event in Germany where they’ll enjoy the VIP treatment. This was a very kind gesture and it was great to see Michael and Paul showing their support for our fantastic Paralympians.”  read more »

Hello folks, I hope everything is good for you and yours whatever you’re at, and thanks for dropping by the site.

First, I’d like to apologise to all the loyal fans who come by the site, and take the time to check in on me, I know there’s been a certain lack of content up here lately, but I can tell you it’s not because I’m a lazy bugger!

The truth is, I’m ridiculously busy. In all honesty, I’ve never been this busy in all my life. The physical side and the business side of the fight game have run into each other like two freight trains for me this year! My job now is to keep them running alongside each other on the tracks! Don’t get me wrong, I’m fighting a war on both fronts, but I’m not complaining. I could have a real job after all!

It’s not just punching bags all day, with my success this year has come an explosion in my business responsibilities. Today is a good example, I went for my run this morning before hitting the gym for some wrestling, then a rest, then some boxing, then juicy sparring this evening.

When I’ve taken my body to the limit in training, it’s time to look though a million emails, make my phone calls, go to meetings - it’s crazy, I can barely find the time to nod off of an evening!

Here’s the state of play. I’m eight weeks out from the fight, I’ve really stepped my training up, and I’ve pretty much moved into the gym full-time now. It’s like solitary confinement with no-one other than Paul Kelly and a couple of other ugly bastards to look at all day!

I’ve got three wrestlers flying in from the States on Wednesday, and I’m looking forward to getting started with them, for more than one reason!  read more »
